What's the difference between an autobiography, biography, or a memoir?

All three tell the story of a person’s life, but they differ in perspective and scope.

An autobiography is a person’s life story written by that person, focusing on their own experiences in chronological order from their perspective.

A biography is a life story written by someone else and often aims for a more objective, researched account.

A memoir focuses more narrowly on specific events, themes, or periods in a person’s life and emphasizes personal experience and reflection rather than complete life coverage.
