Do I need to use VPN to access library resources from home?
Current SHU students, faculty, or staff can access SHU Library resources from off campus using their SHU username and password. There are two easy options to access library materials remotely:
Option 1: Log in when prompted (Standard Access - Recommended)
This is the easiest way to access resources because there is nothing to download or install. Whenever you use QuickSearch or select an individual database from home, a login window will pop up automatically. Simply enter your SHU username and password to log in.
→ Quick tip: Be sure to enter just your SHU username (ex: smithj123), not your full email address.
Option 2: Use the VPN (Optional)
While completely optional, some researchers prefer using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) because it simulates being physically on campus. Once you log into the VPN, databases and publisher websites will automatically recognize you as a SHU user. This gives you seamless access to our full-text collections whether you use a library-specific link or navigate to a site directly on your own.
