I'm a visitor. Can I borrow books?
Visitors are welcome in the Library! If you’re not currently affiliated with SHU, you may be able to get a Guest Borrower Card at the Circulation Desk. Guest borrowing works like this:
- You can check out up to three books at a time.
- Each book is loaned for 28 days.
- Renewals are not available for guest borrowers, so plan to return items by the due date.
- Overdue fines are $0.25 per book, per day for most guests.
- Guest borrowing does not include media items (such as DVDs) or Interlibrary Loan requests.
Some visitors receive borrowing privileges at no cost (for example, if you're a resident of Fairfield, Bridgeport, or Trumbull, a senior citizen, a member of the clergy, or a student at Notre Dame Prep), while others can purchase a Guest Borrower Card for an annual fee of $40. You’ll need a valid photo ID, and in some cases proof of address or school affiliation, when you sign up.
