Your SHU password expires every 6 months, and a new password must be created. You should receive reminder notices about this several weeks in advance, but if your password has expired, not to worry. In either case you can reset it by clicking on the "MySHU" link on the right side of the header on most SHU pages:
From there, click on the "Reset Password" link. You will need to authenticate using your SHU ID number (last 7 digits, the last six digits of your Social Security number, and your birth date. After that, you will be able to choose a new password. Be sure that it includes the variety of characters and minimum length as noted in the online instructions.
If you choose to keep a written record of your password, store it in a secure location. Better still create a non-word (and thus harder to guess) password using twists such as:
- numbers used as letter/word substitutes: 1=i; 2 = z; 3 = E; 7 = T; 0 = o; $ = S; @=a; ! = I;
- Word-in-word blends: midWORDdle;
- Root portion with variable: friends' phone number + code phrase
- Don't use connections that others can readily find in your wallet, your Facebook page, etc. (birth date, pet's name, etc.)
One of these can be memorable without being easily broken. Should you forget your password or should it expire, you can simply use the reset process.
